Sometimes life’s greatest pleasures are the simplest things. That brings us to grilled cheese sandwiches. You cannot go wrong when you combine 2 of the best things…lobster and cheese. Here we also used our favorite sourdough bread from When Pig’s Fly, supporting a local Maine business that bakes the best artisan bread.
This lobster grilled cheese will have you asking for seconds. Maine lobster + Gruyere + Gouda Cheese = What more can you ask for?
1/2 – 1 Cup Maine Lobster Meat
2 Slices of sourdough bread
1/2 TBSP unsalted butter
Sliced Gruyere cheese
Sliced Gouda cheese
(optional) Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Fresh herbs of choice (oregano, tarragon or chives are great recommendations)
STEP 1 – Prepare lobster meat. Chop lobster meat into quarter size pieces. Set aside.
STEP 2 – Prepare cheese. Slice 3-4 pieces of gruyere and 3-4 pieces of gouda cheese and set aside.
STEP 3 – Assemble sandwich. Butter one side of both pieces of bread. On the non-buttered side of the first piece of bread, lay a few pieces of cheese. Then, add the lobster chunks and desired herbs. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Add more pieces of cheese to cover the lobster meat. Place the second slice of bread, buttered-side up, on top.
STEP 4 – Grill your sandwich. Using a pan or skillet, heat over medium heat for 2-3 minutes. Place sandwich on the hot pan. Cook for about 2 minutes on each side, until the cheese begins to melt. Then, flip to the other side. The bread should be golden brown and cheese fully melted. Remove from pan and serve!
STEP 5 – Enjoy!
